I’m planning a post about hourly vs. per project rates, so I thought I’d ask for your thoughts. This was not the original writing prompt for this week, but it’s been on my mind and I’d like to get to the post sooner than later. There have been more requests than usual the last two weeks for hourly work. Are things changing and freelance writers working hourly more than per project or word? Is it becoming the norm?

What are your thoughts? Do you have a preference? Do you think you earn more one way or the other?

If you work hourly, do you use auto-recording software or do you track your own hours?

Feel free to elaborate as much as you want. I’m interested less in the nuts and bolts, and more about thoughts and feelings. I’m pretty opinionated about the topic and my opinion has grown stronger over the years, but maybe I need to rethink my position.
